Australia Who: Scenes from Dystopia

  • Kings Cross Library 50-52 Darlinghurst Road Potts Point, NSW, 2011 Australia (map)

Australia Who: Scenes from dystopia is a performance of scenes adapted from award-winning joanne burns’ novella about environmental devastation and people power. The multimedia performance uses live theatre and projections to bring 4 scenes to life.

In the 1990s, Kings Cross author and poet, joanne burns, wrote Australia Who, a satirical novella set in 2018. In her realisation, life is grim. The environment is decimated, beaches are privatised, and the government is punitive. While rebels are held in outback detention centre, a network of underground activists set out to mobilise the unemployed using new age technologies as weapons.

Supported by Australia Council for the Arts, filmmaker and dramaturge Pierce Wilcox and actor/director Eleni Schumacher collaborate to premiere their adaptation of Australia Who.

The performance will be directed by Elizabeth Nabben (The Readers, Belvoir Street) and will feature original music written and performed by composer, Tom Hogan and features actors Anni Finsterer, Cody Ross, Grace Naoum, Eleni Schumacher and Nicholas Starte.

Presented by Little Fictions.

This free event is suitable for adults only. Bookings are recommended as places are limited.
